Hype Remain Undefeated and Win Summer League Championship 10-0

By · March 18, 2014 · Filed in Hudson Valley Hype News · No Comments »

The Hudson Valley Hype ended their Summer Developmental League Season with a hard fought victory over Team Selimonski 78-61. The Hype were a perfect 8-0 in regular and 2-0 in playoffs not including the two exhibition games they won versus Shawagunk and the NYU Violets. The Hype, without their captain Prince Jackson (Dominican College) for the final two games due to a knee injury started the game hitting their first (4) shots. Newly acquired NFA and Sullivan County College star Terry Colemen took over the starting role as point guard and controlled the pace throughout alongside Andre Defloremente (Jarvis Christian) Not having faced any true adversity in Summer League play Team Selimonski’s newly modified lineup created problems both offensively and defensively due to their size and strength. At halftime the Hype went up 34-32 on an NBA range 3pt shot from 2nd year veteran Mike McNair (Purchase). “This was a fantastic game to watch for all the people that came out, it was one of those tough grind it out kind of games.” Coach and Hype Owner Allen Pickett continues, “I gave them two looks on offense and defense thanks to our lineup. Terry and Andre were the big physical guards with Lemmy and then Tony and Mike with Ramon were our fast shooting guards.”

What is the Summer Developmental League?

By · October 8, 2013 · Filed in From the Owner · No Comments »

The Hudson Valley Hype continue to make strides in innovation for the minor league professional basketball player. This year we have instituted a Summer Developmental League, much like the NBA’s Developmental League, except the rookie tryout players have an opportunity to play alongside the established professional players. Owner Allen Pickett explains, “It is impossible to see how a player will perform at this level from a stat sheet or highlight video. We have chosen this as a venue for the potential new players to showcase their talents, in a professional setting with existing professional players. We are going to manage this team just as we would during the regular season, with community service events, exhibition games, full stat sheets and offensive/defensive plays. Even though the summer league games are not a full (48) minute game against full professional teams, I believe it will serve as the perfect training tool you can’t find at a practice or single day tryout.”

Hudson Valley Hype 2012 Champions

By · August 5, 2013 · Filed in Hudson Valley Hype News · No Comments »

The Cinderella season for the team from the Hudson Valley ended in a 103 to 92 victory over the Metropolitan All Stars and the title of 2012 Eastern Basketball Alliance Champions. Finals MVP honors went to St. Peters standout point guard Nick Leon. The season started for the Hype under the new management as Allen Pickett single handedly turned the franchise from 1-11 to 11-1 including a championship title in one year. The Hype’s only loss of the season came at the hands of division rival NY Wizards, although they were shorthanded for the game in Long Island it was still a disappointing loss and a wakeup call for the players. Teams in both the Northern and Southern divisions began to see the offensive and defensive strength of Hudson Valley as they not only beat teams by an average margin of 28.7pts. this season, but more importantly held teams to a meager 88.9pts per game, both historic margins for a team in the Eastern Basketball Alliance. Owner Allen Pickett explains, “My goal and the focus of the coaching staff since the pre-season has been defense, the league is filled with players that can score 30+ on any given night, but if you have a team defensive concept over any one’s individual stats then you are going to come away with a victory more times than not.” The Hype also set league records this year for most assists in a single game by veteran Gerald Carter and most three point field goals by Nick Carter.
Mr. Pickett continues, “This was literally 16 months of basketball and business to get to this point, I started clinics and tryouts in May of last year, then moved on to NYC summer tournaments, exhibition games and then we officially started the season a month earlier in the Northern Division in order to keep the momentum going. The team was overwhelmingly loaded with talent from the start, most teams have one or two players move onto higher professional careers but we had four during the season. Dominique Jones went to Germany, Lou McCrowskie to Canada, Cesar Jacobo to Coasta Rica, and Lloyd Clinton to the famous Harlem Wizards, we even lost our starting point guard to Mexico for a short period. But with an NYC iconic basketball coaching legend like James Ryans and the scouting mastermind of Andre Ricketts we didn’t skip a beat.”
The season was not only about winning percentages, the Hype and Hudson Valley Hype Enterprises, LLC made charitable donations and completed community service work throughout the year to Food Shelters, Coat Drives for the Homeless, and even a league first Breast Cancer Foundation Awareness final regular season game that raised money based solely on donations for admittance. Mr. Pickett continues, “The Hype as a franchise have always made the best possible attempt to not only be accessible to the community and our fans but give back to those that have made us feel welcome as well.” The Hype also made accommodations for all Hudson Valley Big Brother Big Sister and Boys Club members to come see the best team in NYC for free this year.

Hype 2012 Team Season Honors

By · July 26, 2013 · Filed in Hudson Valley Hype News · No Comments »

The Honors continued for the Hudson Valley Hype’s championship season as the 2011/2012 All Star Team was announced today with votes being assembled from not only league owners but coaches as well. Again the Hype set the standard with three players from the starting line up making the roster, Nick Carter, Kayode Ayeni and Steffon Farley. “I think it says a lot about our team when three out of our eleven man roster made the All Star team” Owner Allen Pickett continues, “It also says a lot about the hard work these guys put in on a daily basis and it being acknowledged by the other teams. There were times during the season that we fell behind by as many as (15) points but the athleticism and never quit attitude of the entire team made the difference, many teams simply tired out or had to go deep to the bench in the 3rd and 4th quarters because of the continuous pressure we put on them.”

The awards didn’t stop with the All Star nominations; the Hype’s own Nick Carter was nominated co-MVP of the Eastern Basketball Alliance along with Washington Madness’s Chris Mathews. Nick Carter is no stranger to the accolades that come with his basketball abilities, at division II C.W. Post Carter was East Coast Tournament MVP and First Team All East Coast Conference averaging 18 ppg. and shooting 44% from three point range. Carter’s regular season was offensively spectacular, averaging 24.9 points a game, many of which came from behind the three point line where he set a league record of (10) in one game. His season was capped off with a two impressive performances in the semis and a game high (34) points in the championship win over the Metropolitan All Stars.

The final accomplishment was announced today and justifiably so, the Hudson Valley Hype head Coach James Ryans received coach of the year for the Eastern Basketball Alliance. The team made a complete turn from 1-11 last year to 11-1 and a championship in 2012. Owner Allen Pickett comments, “I am very fortunate to have someone of Mr. Ryans stature coach the team. I joke with him that he (James) does more basketball related activities before 9:00am than most do in a season, and it shows on and off the court. I don’t want to take any credit away from James but I also want to acknowledge the fact that without my consultant and asst. coach Andre Ricketts the initial introduction would not have been made. Mr. Ricketts has done more than his share to make this season a success as well.”

**2012 Final Four or Championship Game DVDs are now available, recorded professionally in HD. Visit the Team Merchandise page or contact info@hudsonvalleyhype.com to order your copy.
